Over-Doing It

Over-Doing It

Today we’re going to talk about a topic that I think a lot of people in the fitness world do, over-doing it.

What is that you might ask? Is that over-training or over-reaching? No, those two things are entirely different altogether. Over-doing it is when you’re in the gym too much, getting too crazy on your diet, being to hard on yourself or obsessing too much about fitness and/or nutrition. If you let your fitness life take over other aspects of your life letting you enjoy it to the fullest, it might be time to take a step back.

The biggest thing to remember in the world of fitness and nutrition is this is something that should be a positive aspect of your life, not a negative one. You should never dread going to the gym, eating a meal or doing a session of cardio. You should also never pass on life to go to the gym, eat a meal or do a session of cardio. Part of living a healthy life-style is also living in balance. A good balance of working out, eating right and a healthy social/family life that is in support of your lifestyle should ultimately be what you’re after, not just a set of sick abs.

You Can Live In Balance

Have you ever thought of your week in advance and realized that there may be days that just won’t be conducive to hitting your goals that week? Maybe you’re trying to cut weight, but there is a family function Wednesday night that you KNOW there will be ample amounts of alcohol and food involved. That’s fine. Maybe you just do a hard leg workout that morning, eat some light salads during the day, and indulge at night. Remember, I did not say binge and eat 5,000kcal of pie and another 20 beers, I said indulge. All that means is you engage with the social crowd your in and enjoy yourself. If you need 20 beers and 20 cheeseburgers to “enjoy” yourself, you may want to rethink what you’re doing.

If you live your life where eating with your family is paramount, and maybe they don’t make the best of food decisions at night for dinner…there are ways around that. Maybe Intermittent Fasting is a good protocol for you to implore in your lifestyle so you can have a bigger family dinner where the types and amounts of food won’t affect you so negatively. Maybe you know you’re downfall are the weekends. Try to be a little tighter during the week, plan on being on a 3-5 day cut, and 1-2 day re-feed or bulk on the weekends where you work on your lagging body parts.

Different Strokes

There are a number of different strategies you can use in your life to hit your fitness goals without compromising a rewarding life outside of the gym. Just because you miss a workout, have a busy schedule, don’t have time to pre food or just can’t not eat twinkies does not mean you can’t do it. Just PLAN for it. Think about what you can realistically and practically stick to and devise a plan that will be in support of that lifestyle.

Remember folks, it IS your right to be ripped.
